Hamilton House-page 5

June 16-19 A wonderful weekend for painting the chicken coop. Karl painted the roof with aluminum paint to stop some minor leaks and I painted the sides to soften the color and try to make it less noticeable.

June 23-26 Karl got to play a little bit with his new toy! Once he gets the hang of it we should be able to get a lot bigger jobs done. There are sooo many rocks where the old barn used to stand...I hope it isn't like that all over the yard or we will have to build stone walls everywhere! We also spent some time painting and putting up the signs to stop the NYRI power line project.

July 1-5 On Saturday we first went to Vern's pig roast in Rio, NY and had nice time there. Vern is the chef and Karl is busy cutting up the porker.

From there we drove up to the property, about a 2 hour drive and relaxed the rest of the evening because we knew we had lots to do the next day. Early the next day I started the very tedious job of peeling layers and layers of wall paper from inside the built in cupboard and the beam by the ceiling. What a mess.....I started having doubts about the whole project many times during this experience!!!

Karl was pressure washing his toy while I was working inside.

After he had it cleaned up a bit he decided to take it for a ride around the property and make a path so we would be able to go for walks. The hay was so high that we really had a hard time going anywhere. So off he goes intending to squash the high grass by dragging the scoop behind him. That was the last I saw of him for quite a long time..........

He came back........ without the backhoe and said he had gotten it stuck in the mud! I thought he must be joking-who gets stuck with a backhoe?? I walked down to take a look and realized we were not going to get it out of there until the mudhole had a chance to dry up. As some of you heard I had a wild ride in the trailer behind our small tractor and nearly got dumped on my behind when Karl hit some of the bumps. We were soaked in the rain storm but had lots of laughs(as well as our neighbors) about the whole event! we had to leave it there till the following weekend because it was just to deep in the mud.

July 7-10 Success !!!! We came back to try and get the backhoe unstuck! After a bit of struggling with beams and planks we were able to get it out! Now hopefully all the leaks and hydraulic pistons will be fixed so he can "get her done" and finish up some jobs.
